Lakshya's Challenge

Laurels Association

13 January 2023

On Wednesday, we welcomed former pupil Lakshya Jain back to school to deliver an assembly to Senior School pupils.

Lakshya gave pupils a fascinating talk about life after EHS and how she was able to overcome various obstacles in her path. She was a shining example of resilience and determination, and emphasised the importance of living in the moment. Lakshya left EHS in 2015. She told us how her time as a Maths undergraduate at Edinburgh University led to her falling in love with Scotland, and developing a passion for exercise and the great outdoors.

Lakshya is about to embark on her biggest challenge to date - walking the USA’s famous Pacific Crest Trail. This undertaking will be no mean feat, especially for Lakshya who was, by her own admission, someone who avoided physical exercise and would have done anything to get out of P.E. whilst in school! Traversing 2,650 miles of desert, mountain and forest through California, Oregon and Washington, the trip will take five months to complete.

Lakshya has managed to secure sponsorship from leading sportswear supplier Brooks, appearing on their YouTube channel as a sponsored athlete. She will also be raising funds for ‘Medicins sans Frontieres’.

Her journey begins in March and we look forward to following her progress on Instagram and Strava via @lakshya_the_hiker. Good luck, Lakshya!
