Sociologists Explore Criminal Justice System

Sixth Form

23 February 2024

On Wednesday, the Year 13 Sociology students had the opportunity to visit the Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.

During the visit, the girls observed two interesting court sessions from the public gallery which allowed them to gain a deeper level of understanding about the criminal justice system.

Following the court sessions, the girls enjoyed the chance to converse with a retired magistrate and a sitting magistrate during a question and answer session, which was useful for their studies of the Crime and Deviance in Society topic since they gained insight into how the criminal justice system operates to effectively deal with crime, as well as the magistrates own experiences of criminals.

It was an afternoon of academic enrichment, and the girls have lots of new ideas to include in their work for the Crime and Deviance unit.
