Year 2 Super Scientists

Preparatory

09 February 2024

On Monday, Year 2 enjoyed visiting the Thinktank Museum as part of their Science topic ‘Colour and Light’.

They had the opportunity to observe stars in the Planetarium, learning to recognise constellations such as ‘The Plough’ and ‘Orion’ as well as finding out how to identify the North Star. They also took a tour of the planets, learning about the terrestrial planets and the gas giants in our solar system.

The pupils then had the chance to explore Mini Brum where they had the opportunity to role play various jobs including vets, dentists, builders and shopkeepers.

The final activity was the ‘Colour me a Rainbow’ show which the girls enjoyed participating in. They heard the story of King Opaque and through this learnt about transparent, translucent and opaque materials. They also found out about light sources and shadows and some of the girls were involved in a shadow puppet show, which they all thoroughly enjoyed!
