23 February 2024

We were pleased to welcome everyone back from the half term break and interested to hear all of their news. Our first day back was certainly full of excitement as we held our annual Inter-House Pancake Race which was a great success. All girls in school were involved and pleased to represent their Houses. Congratulations to Frank House who won by just one point in a very close finish with Curie House.

If you have been following our social media posts you will have seen a number of classroom activities enjoyed by the girls. These have included Year 2 girls sharing books with their Year 6 reading buddies and Year 6 girls using digital mapping software as part of the Geography Research and a forensic Science investigation.  Year 3 have also been busy in Geography producing jigsaw puzzles of the Arctic Circle.

Year 5 Art Club has been busy too, with the girls working collaboratively to produce two murals using recycled bottle tops. Prep girls are very aware of the dangers posed to our oceans which was the inspiration for the pieces of work.

This week our school assemblies have focused on our values and responsibilities. Reception and Years 1 and 2 marked ‘Love Your Pet Day’ with a consideration of the responsibilities involved in having a pet and looking after all of their needs.

On Thursday we also marked World Thinking Day along with the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in over 150 countries in the world. We considered carefully the Promise made by members and the Brownie Guide Law too. It was clear how closely these match the values we have in school.  Girls came to school wearing their uniforms from Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers and Cubs and were happy to share with their classmates their experiences of belonging to the various groups.

Thursday ended with a most enjoyable teatime concert featuring 27 of our Year 5 and 6 talented musicians.  This is always a most relaxing way to end a busy day.

We ended our week with our Celebration Assembly during which we presented the Pancake Trophy to Frank House Captains and congratulated all of the musicians from the concert.  Mr Skilbeck, Director of Music, also announced the finalists for our Prep Musician of the Year competition taking place on Thursday of next week.  There were congratulations too for Jessica who came first in the U14 class playing her violin at the Watford Festival.

There were individual swimming awards for Denver for achieving Level 2 and for Ayla who swam a mile – 114 lengths! Aisha was presented with a Skate Excellence award too for her ice skating achievements.  Independent Work was also recognised with certificates for Ria in Year 6 for her Shakespeare research and to Shahnoor, Maisie, Robyn, Sanvi, Agniya, Riyana, Supreeta and Sylvie for their entries to the Zentangle Challenge.

Clara in Year 5 was presented with a Headteacher’s certificate for her excellent self portrait.  We look forward to seeing more of Clara’s work as the year progresses.

We look forward to welcoming Year 6 parents to the Audience with EHS on Tuesday next week and to seeing everyone at EHSPA Prep Party on Friday evening.

Head of the Preparatory School
