Prep News - 12 January

Preparatory

12 January 2024

Although the weather outside was very cold there was a warm glow on Tuesday as girls were excited to see each other after the holiday break.  They were clearly pleased to be back at school and ready to take on the challenges ahead in the new term.

We also welcomed a number of new girls into our school community and know they will settle quickly.

The New Year has been a focus of the week, especially in assemblies as we have considered all we achieved in the last year and what we are going to focus on going forward.  Girls were reminded to reflect regularly on what they are proud of and the progress they are making.

Girls in Years 2 and 3 have already started this process with work they have done during the week.  Year 2 girls shared their holiday news and have also been enjoying their new Science topic on sources of light.  They are now looking forward to their trip to Thinktank to extend their studies further.  Year 3 has been using Base 10 apparatus to represent 3-digit numbers when learning about place value.

We also have Independent work efforts to be extremely proud of as we start the term.  Our young linguists are progressing well in round one of the national Junior Language Challenge and we presented certificates and rosettes to Jashvita, Haya and Diya who are leading our results at present.  We hope they enjoy learning their new language this term.

Potential explorers have also been busy during the holiday investigating a variety of different countries as part of a Geography Explorers Challenge set by Miss Nelsey who is keen to inspire the girls to be curious Geographers.

Next week Year 6 have their Medical Mavericks workshop and we look forward to welcoming Year 3 parents to our storytelling assembly.  Year 5 and 6 basketballers also have the live matches featuring Birmingham Rockets, both ladies’ and men’s teams to look forward to.

Wishing all of our Prep Community a happy 2024.
