On Thursday 17 August, staff and students at Edgbaston High School celebrated an outstanding set of A Level results with 41.4% of grades at A*/A, and 76% of grades at A*/B.

Reflecting upon the three years of disruption that this year group faced and not having the opportunity to sit their GCSE examinations due to Covid restrictions, it is particularly commendable that the results achieved are in line with 2019 grades pre-pandemic.

This year’s cohort are certainly an impressive group of bright young women, and they are more than ready to take their place in the world. 

87% of students will be heading to their first-choice university, amongst them Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Exeter, York and Warwick. As ever, the wide range of destinations and degree courses reflect the diverse range of interests of our students. Some will be pursuing a love of languages, studying mathematics or law, or reading philosophy. Other students have secured places to study medicine or geoscience, and others will be flexing their creativity in studying film, graphics or textiles design. 

Headmistress, Clare Macro, commented: “I send my congratulations to the Class of 2023. I am delighted to see that all their hard work and dedication has paid off.  

“At Edgbaston High School we aim to equip students with the skills to pursue any future they can imagine and there is no limit to our ambition for them. 

“Year 13 have made lasting contributions to the EHS community, both in and outside the classroom, and are fantastic role models for younger EHS girls. Fun, conscientious, resilient and with superb leadership skills they should go forward with confidence in their own abilities, knowing that they have everything within them to succeed.

“I am excited to see what they do next and wish them every success as they move on to new chapters whether that be onwards to university, taking up apprenticeships or embarking on gap years.”
