Prep's Carol Service Celebration

Preparatory

15 December 2023

On Monday afternoon a large congregation of Prep School girls, staff and parents gathered in the Octagon for our annual Carol Service. We also welcomed Pete Dalton and Lucy Bridgewood from Anchor Church.

The service opened with our Prep Orchestra playing Gavotte No 1. The instrumentalists then accompanied all of the congregational carols, the first of which was ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ with Lily as the first verse soloist.

There were performances from our Junior and Senior Choirs singing ‘Sing We Now of Christmas’, ‘The Manger’, ‘Mid-Winter’ and ‘Gift Eternal’.  All girls from Years 1 – 6 were also involved in singing several seasonal songs and the final whole school song was sung in French.  In what has become an established tradition in the Carol Service, Year 6 girls also played a number of pieces on the handbells.

The music during the service was interspersed with readings of the Christmas story read by Charlotte, Emily and Jessie, Amaris, Zainab and Megan.

Pete and Lucy gave the address based on the theme of the gifts of Christmas. They brought the story to life with the inclusion of some helpers chosen from the audience and Natasha, Bonnie and Natalia enjoyed being involved.

The service ended with ‘Ode to Joy’ played by the Orchestra before parents gathered for refreshments. We are very grateful for the donation of £265 in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, our chosen charity for Christmas.
