School is now in full swing in our first full week back with all co-curricular clubs having started and with many activities taking place.

We began the week with the awarding of badges for posts of responsibility for this term. These included our Charity Reps and Form and Vice Form Captains with our Prep Parliament and Eco Reps continuing in post. We hope the girls enjoy fulfilling their various roles.

Wednesday was a very busy day in school as we started with marking Kid Inventors Day by celebrating inventions made by children as young as six. This was followed by the Medical Mavericks workshop for Year 6 pupils during which we welcomed visitors to our ‘School in Action’ day. Our Year 6 guides were once again complimented on their delivery of information.

Colour has provided several year groups with different areas of study this week.  Year 2 have been looking at colour in their Science lessons and using the three primary colours (red, yellow and blue) they have created secondary colours. The girls had lots of fun mixing the primary paint colours to create new colours and worked well in pairs to do this.  Year 6 have been mixing more subtle shades to hone their watercolour painting techniques to create realistic spring flowers.

Our Celebration Assembly on Thursday also had a focus on art when Miss Brown announced the winners of the Year 5 Art Competition run during the Christmas holiday.  Their brief was to create a person or people in different media. We also congratulated our Orion Club swimmers on their phenomenal achievements in their club championships with 26 medals gained in total by Anna, Ellise, Eliza, Charlotte and Ava. We also wish Ava, Eliza and Ellise good luck as they compete in the Warwickshire Championship at the weekend.

There was a trophy for Sophie Donelly who came fifth in the U10 Latin class of the Champions of Tomorrow Ballroom and Latin Competition. Sophie is our very own Strictly celebrity as she won this award competing in Blackpool!  There were also congratulations for Imogen McArdle who has become a member of the CBSO Children’s Choir following a successful audition.  We know she will enjoy the opportunities to perform at venues such as Symphony Hall and Royal Albert Hall.  Well done to all!

Khushi and Zoe, our Year 6 Language Ambassadors, also reminded everyone about the extensive selection of language books in the Prep Library and about the French game they will be introducing to the playground next week.

We marked Winnie the Pooh Day on Thursday too with a focus on the different qualities and talents of our friends and the true value of friendship.

We have finished the week welcoming Year 3 parents to our Storytelling Assembly which featured all girls demonstrating their excellent performance skills.  Next week we look forward to being joined by parents of girls in 6I for their class assembly on Tuesday.

We hope the Year 5 and 6 girls attending the Birmingham Rockets Basketball matches at the weekend enjoy the sport in action and pick up many tips to use in Basketball Club.
