‘One Day More’ All Star Performance

We are delighted to be able to announce that Sir David Bintley CBE will be joining us to introduce our special fundraising concert 'One Day More', in aid of the Pam Jelf Memorial Fund, on the evening of Sunday 10 December. Sir David has been a leading figure in the Ballet world and in raising the profile of performing arts in Birmingham for the past three decades. This will be his first visit to EHS since he opened the Octagon in 2004 and it is a great honour to have him at our very exciting concert.
Sir David Bintley trained at the Royal Ballet School before joining Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet. He was noted for the title role in Petrushka, and Alain and Widow Simone in La Fille mal gardée. The Company’s Director, Peter Wright, encouraged his desire to choreograph and his first piece, The Outsider, was created in 1978.
From 1986 to 1993 he moved from resident choreographer for Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet to the same post at Covent Garden. He became Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet from 1995 to 2019. From 2010 to 2014 he took on the additional role of Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Japan, creating Aladdin and Prince of the Pagodas for the Company. He was appointed a CBE in 2001 and awarded a Knighthood in Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honours List, 2019, for Services to Dance.
This special concert will feature all the big songs from the hit musical Les Misérables and an all-star cast of former pupils who will be returning to EHS in this one-off special fundraising event. All performers are now professional musicians and will be supported by a professional band of musicians and invited singers from our current cohort of pupils - view the photo gallery below to see rehearsals in action.
