Examination Board: AQA Specification A
AQA Physics A has been chosen to provide a seamless transition to A Level from GCSE and to develop interest and enthusiasm in the subject. It aims to introduce new and exciting areas of Physics as well as developing knowledge and understanding of the key principles.
Three units are studied in Year 12 which lead to an AS qualification.
AS Examination
Unit 1 Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity
Unit 2 Mechanics, Materials and Waves
Unit 3 Investigative and Practical Skills
Investigative and practical skills will be internally assessed in a similar process to that used at GCSE.
A2 Examination
Unit 4 Fields and Further Mechanics
Unit 5 Nuclear Physics, Thermal Physics and an Optical Topic
Unit 6 Investigative and Practical Skills
A Level Physics provides a sound basis for students considering courses in a wide range of disciplines including Science, Medicine, Engineering and Architecture. A course in Physics is a valuable training for almost any career.
Entry Requirements:
It is expected that students will have at least a grade B in Physics or AA in Science and Additional Science. They should be competent mathematicians with agrade A or A* at GCSE, and will be required to attend additional mathematics lessons if they are not taking AS Mathematics in Year 12.
