Examination Board: AQA
Music has an important role to play in the life of the school and Sixth Formers with special interests and talents are actively encouraged to participate in the variety of opportunities offered. Those who wish to continue their studies beyond GCSE can proceed to AS and then to A2 Level. Studying this subject at Advanced Level prepares students wishing to proceed to a degree course at a University or Conservatoire.
The AQA specification will cover the following topics:
AS Examination
Module 1 Influences on Music
Module 2 Composing
Module 3 Performing
A2 Examination
Module 4 Music in Context
Module 5 Composing
Module 6 Performing
Entry Requirements:
It is advisable for any potential A Level candidate to have reached Grade 6 standard of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music on at least one instrument and to have attained a Grade A in GCSE Music. GCSE Music is a pre-requisite for entry onto the A Level course.
A scholarship, that can be up to the value of 50% of the fees, is awarded to an internal or external pupil (this scholarship may be divided between two promising musicians). Suitable candidates for this Scholarship are tested in the Spring Term prior to the beginning of the Sixth Form course.
