History
Examination board: AQA
History is most enjoyed by people who like reading, evaluation, solving problems (to which there are rarely final answers) and studying the influence and activities of men and women as individuals and in society. It also provides an opportunity for the practice of skilful objective writing. An interest in any or all of religious, social, economic, political and constitutional developments helps. Essential qualities are a lively curiosity, an ability to express oneself clearly and a willingness to undertake independent research.
Two different AS and A2 courses are offered from the AQA syllabus. Students choose to study either Early Modern History or Modern History.
Entry Requirements:
It is possible for students to take History at AS and A2 Level even if they did not study History at GCSE level. However, these are challenging course which require reasonable levels of intelligence and literacy. Therefore we would expect students who had taken GCSE History to have gained a grade A or A* and those who have not taken GCSE to have gained a grade A in English Language.
