English Literature

Examination Board: AQA

The AS and A2 English Literature courses each consist of two units.The textsstudied are drawn from novels, poetry and drama, representing modern work as well as classic texts, including Shakespeare.

Personal response based on detailed knowledge and understanding and the exploration of different interpretations of texts, together with an application of the contexts in which texts have been written, are all important at this level.

The subject willappeal to students who:

* enjoy reading

* are good at taking part in discussion

* enjoy theatre, film, workshops, etc.

* are likely to do well at GCSE English Literature

Entry requirements:

Obviously you should enjoy the subject and be prepared to read outside the Specification. We prefer AS and A2 students to have taken GCSE English Literature, but if you have a genuine interest in plays, novels and poetry and how writers use language, you will be welcome.

We expect you to have a Grade A at GCSE, but we assess your suitability for the course on the basis of our knowledge of your work and aptitude.
