Library News - January
This month I am highlighting three national events that EHS senior girls and their families can participate in, at a local or national level.
Firstly, Holocaust Memorial Day, with an event in Birmingham City Centre on 22 January. The website publishes a wide range of information about global tragedies in the 20thCentury, taking the story of Anne Frank as a starting point. http://hmd.org.uk/about/ Girls can find more information about Anne Frank and her contemporaries from the Library. Either from the book display or by searching the catalogue using the Eclipse software.
On February 4 2012, many local and community libraries will be participating in National Libraries Day.http://www.nationallibrariesday.org.uk/. The promotional website gives information on local library events - something different to do on Saturday 4 February.
2012 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickenshttp://www.dickens2012.org/ is a colourful and interesting website. Television programmes, films, new books and special events are all listed for this anniversary year. The school library stocks a wide range of Dickens' novels in full text or in abridged version with illustrations.
Girls can also keep up to date with historical events and topics currently in the news, with daily newspapers in the Library: The Times and the abridged version of The Independent, 'I', and with monthly magazines such as BBC History.
