PROFESSOR DAME SALLY DAVIES

sally_daviesOld Girl of EHS, Professor Sally Davies, became Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) in the New Year Honours in January 2009 for services to Medicine. Sally is Director General of Research and Development at the Department of Health and Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department of Health and NHS.

 

She is also a member of the World Health Organisation’s Global Advisory Committee on Health Research and the UK Health Innovation Council. She is on the academic staff of Imperial College, London where she is Professor of Haemogobinopathies and her research interests focus on sickle cell disease.

 

Sally left EHS in 1967 and is the daughter of the late Mary Davies who was Chair of Governing Council for many years in the 1990s. Her family’s links with the School continue today as her niece Imogen is a pupil in Senior School.
