On Saturday 10 July, internationally acclaimed composer Peter Wiegold will be leading a creative orchestra at Birmingham Conservatoire as part of the National Festival of Music for Youth.
Young musicians from the across the West Midlands who are of grade 5 level or above are invited to take part.
What can you expect?
Working alongside young musicians from national youth music organisations such as the National Youth Orchestra, National Youth Brass Band, South Asian Youth Orchestra and Pro Corda, you'll be part of a big ensemble made up of string players, woodwind, brass, percussion, electric guitar and bass, keyboard, world musicians and musicians creating music on laptops.
Under the direction of Peter Wiegold you'll all be involved in creating a new version of his piece ‘the cut worm forgives the plough'. This piece was originally created for folk and classical musicians to perform together.
By mixing classical musicians with jazz singers, guitarists, drummers, bhangra musicians and more, the creative orchestra will develop a new sound world for the piece. The creative orchestra will present their new version at the end of the day with a performance to friends and family.
