Year 6 took a journey back in time to Ancient Egypt last week during a history workshop held in Prep Hall. The backdrop for the day's activities was the Festival of the Nile, set in 460 BC. With practical activities in the morning and role-play in the afternoon, Year 6 pupils, parents and staff enjoyed a unique experience. The girls worked independently at home to make and assemble their own costumes and paid meticulous attention to their hair, accessories and make-up. They looked amazing!
By Alice Wood - On the morning of the workshop, I travelled to EHS on the school bus and the Year 6 girls were buzzing with excitement. When we arrived at school we were all given Egyptian names, mine was Nephitys. In the hall we met Phil Cooke, from the History Off the Page Company and he told us what we would be doing during the workshop ... he said we would have a great day but it was much better than that!
By Evie Tomkins - When we got to school we were all excited to see each other's costumes - some were fabulous, lots of effort had gone into them. One of my favourite activities was making perfume cones which could have been worn on the head to smell fragrant. (The scented wax cones were worn on the head, the sun would melt the wax and it would cool the hair and the perfume smelt wonderful). First, we had to choose which spices we would use for the smell. I choose cardamom and frankincense; we then used a pestle and mortar to grind the spices into powder. Next, we made a clay finger pot and sprinkled the ground spices in and filled it with hot wax and left it to solidify.
By Karishma Mani - After lunch the whole year group gathered in Prep Hall for our next activity. We were to perform to the Queen during the Royal Banquet. My group performed ‘The Dance of the Nile.' Parent helper Dr Temple, was our choreographer. Our dance was to show the actions of the River Nile through movement.
By Nada El-Kawy - In the afternoon we had a banquet, performances and a number of other activities. I loved the dances because they were so elegant, swift and graceful.
