On Friday 18 June 12 girls, Mrs Barrick and Mrs Woodfield went to face the Bredon Challenge for the first time. We left school at 7.30 am feeling nervous but excited.
When we arrived we had time to see the animals on the school farm before the events began. First activity for Year 5 was Technology. Our task was to make an outfit for a superhero which had to include something to hold. We dressed up Maddie! We were judged on teamwork, the finished result and how creative we had been. As a result we came second.
Next was the Rope Assault Course. We had a team talk followed by 6 of us working together on the skis and then sprinting over to the tree to cross the ropes. We got rope burns as we were doing it but nevertheless we were determined to win. We came third and Mrs Barrick seemed pleased with what we had done so far.
Map reading was next. We managed to get all 11 by following the map and getting stung and scratched. When we came back it was decided it was time for a drink. Everyone was exhausted after running their fastest to get all of the flags.
We were all desperate for food so we got a nice spot in the sun and relaxed ready for a delicious barbecue.
After lunch it was time for the General Knowledge Quiz which had 100 questions and we had 45 minutes to answer them. Everyone knew something different and that helped a lot so we answered all but one question which was ‘What does BBC stand for?' Some of us then got changed into our costumes ready for swimming which was the last thing.
It was then time for running. We had to sprint 300 metres which was very tough as other schools had very fast runners. We ran our fastest, overtaking lots of people on the way. Martha finished the running going from fifth to third place where we finished.
The last activity was swimming. We did incredibly well. The Year 4s won in their group and the Year 5s came in third. It was very hard as the swimming pool was outdoors and unheated! It was then time for the overall result of the Bredon Challenge. We thought we did very well considering it was our first time as EHS came second beaten by just one point.
