PREP NEWS

prep_newsThis has been a week filled with special assemblies.

Monday 1st March was marked appropriately with a St. David's Day assembly. Girls from Curie House also launched the sale of daffodil badges on behalf of the Marie Curie Cancer charity.

Forms 1B and 1C entertained their parents with assemblies on the theme of ‘Ourselves' which has been their topic this term. We heard all about their studies and saw examples of their art work, ICT skills and science knowledge. They sang, danced, recited poems and told us all about their trip to Thinktank. The girls all performed very confidently and well in their first assembly in front of visitors.

Thursday's assembly was a riot of colour as we celebrated World Book Day and everyone came to school dressed as a character from a book. The girls had made a tremendous effort and we spent an enjoyable day spotting some of our favourite characters. Many lessons of the day also focussed on books and story telling.

The week finished with another assembly for parents. This was the turn of 3K. They presented a traditional Columbian folk tale. The girls who were all dressed in costume acted a story which featured the sale of a donkey and the difficulties of listening to different pieces of advice. They also sang original songs all written by Miss Thiele, their class teacher. Once again, the girls gave a confident and polished performance.

During the week a number of sports events took place with many successful results. Four girls, Imogen Ash, Alice Coward and Carmen Elliott from Year 6 and Maddie O'Donnell, Year 5 swam in the Bromsgrove Preparatory School Invitational Swimming Relays Competition. They finished second in both the Medley and freestyle relays and returned with two silver medals. There was a high standard of competition and our girls gave excellent performances.

Later in the week the Year 5 and 6 teams played netball against Bromsgrove School. The Year 6 games featured accurate shooting and defending and the ‘A' team won 16 - 4 and the ‘B' team won 15 - 0. In the Year 5 matches, playing with full height posts, the ‘A' team won 7 - 1 and the ‘B' team were just beaten in the final seconds 2 - 1. All girls are to be congratulated for their determined play. We also wish our Year 6 netball squad good luck in their weekend tour to Portsmouth.

On Wednesday evening a number of Year 5 and 6 girls entertained an audience of parents, staff, and brothers and sisters at the Teatime Concert. There was a wealth of talent on show as we were treated to many solo performances including vocal, clarinet, trumpet, piano, guitar and drums. The concert also featured guitar and piano duets and the guitar ensemble played too. The concert ended with a beautiful ballet dance performed by Imogen Ash. All of the girls performed extremely well and the audience was very appreciative of their efforts.

I close with a reminder that the Prep Disco is just a week away. It takes place on Friday 12th March from 4 - 6 pm so please remember to send in requests for your tickets. It is an enjoyable evening with lots on offer for everyone including parents. Do come along, I look forward to seeing you there!
