Happy Birthday EHS!
Published: 02 Feb 2012
This year's 136th school birthday celebrations were made even more special as they were combined with the official opening of the new front of school extension and a visit from Mrs Anne Howarth.
The day began with a rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' during assembly and cake was shared at break time.
In the afternoon Mrs Howarth, an Old Girl, teacher and former OGA Chairman of the school, came to talk to the Prep girls about the history of the school through the eyes of six EHS girls from different eras. She started with Kate Dixon, one of the very first pupils at EHS. We learnt how the experiences of these young ladies had both similarities and differences to the pupils of today. Fortunately we are no longer in need of the gas masks that Barbara, a pupil in the 1940s, needed!
Mrs Howarth's talk was brought to life by some Year 6 volunteers who dressed up in past EHS uniforms. A slideshow of photographs from the school archive also engaged the children in learning about the history of the school.
After the talk, Form Captains represented Prep at the unveiling of the plaque in Senior School extension by Sir Stephen Brown, president of the school's governing council.
